Nathaniel Hawthorne on faith

Happiness is a butterfly, which, when pursued, is always just beyond your grasp, but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you.

No man, for any considerable period, can wear one face to himself and another to the multitude, without finally getting bewildered as to which may be the true.

Love, whether newly born, or aroused from a deathlike slumber, must always create sunshine, filling the heart so full of radiance, that it overflows upon the outward world.

Faith … is the art of holding on to things your reason has once accepted in spite of your changing moods.

C. S. Lewis1898–1963Mere Christianity, Book III, Chapter 11 “Faith” (1952)

Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.

Martin Luther King Jr.1929–1968

Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe.
