No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.

Religion is fundamentally opposed to everything I hold in veneration⁠—courage, clear thinking, honesty, fairness, and, above all, love of the truth.

Puritanism⁠—the haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy.

The Bible is not my book, and Christianity is not my religion. I could never give assent to the long, complicated statements of Christian dogma.
